Truly amazing, inspiring, and must-see video from Ryan Harvey inside the Capital building, where a police officer wearing a “COPS FOR LABOR” sweat shirt announced the support of police to the thousands of protesters.
Accompanying that incredible video–yet more evidence of the organizing potential in the digital age when reporting of historic events is so rapid–is a blurb courtesy of Neil Parthun, who hosts the outstanding “Not Another Sports Show” on WRFU Urbana, 104.5 FM Saturdays from 2-3 p.m. CT:
One of the people in the Capitol that's been doing reporting said “Police have just announced to the crowds inside the occupied State Capitol of Wisconsin: ‘We have been ordered by the legislature to kick you all out at 4:00 today. But we know what’s right from wrong. We will not be kicking anyone out, in fact, we will be sleeping here with you!’ Unreal.”
Unreal indeed. I don’t know how many police side with or have joined the protesters. Nor do I know just what will happen this afternoon at 4, when orders to evict the protesters are to be carried out. But I do know that this is further, irrefutable evidence of the spreading network of solidarity that Governor Walker’s draconian anti-union proposals have spurred. Such solidarity won’t be easily bottled up, that’s for certain.
