IWLH February 12 Show

12 Feb

Tune in to today’s show on WEFT Champaign, 90.1 FM or stream it live at, as we discuss contemporary labor-related news, aspects of labor history, and also important and sometimes overlooked events as a part of Black History Month. We plan to discuss athletes and civil rights in the 1960s, focusing especially on the boycott of American Football League (AFL) players in January 1965 over racist treatment in New Orleans, LA, and also Curt Flood, whose pioneering challenge to the de facto peonage of baseball’s reserve clause eventually led to the strengthening of the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), and free agency after a 1975 arbitration ruling struck down the long-detested reserve clause.
